Why heavy snoring becomes a problem for some when you age
There are many reasons why we snore, and why some people will require a snoring mouthpiece at some time. In some cases it can be down to our lifestyle, working long shifts, drinking too much, being overweight or even due to some allergies. Additionally, it can also be because of structural features within your throat and neck. I have listed some of the features which can cause loud snoring below:
Larger tongue - Air has to brush past triggering snoring while lying down.
Large Adenoids - Can be a cause of snoring in children
Small Nasal Passage - There are treatments to help clear these passages.
Narrow Jaw - A snoring mouthpiece can help with this.
Large tonsils -Similar to adenoids.
Deviated septum - (this can be addressed by surgery treatment)
All of these craniofacial issues are however more likely to increase as you get older. You may have not snored when you were younger but as your body gets to the later stages of its life, your muscles tend to relax and soften.
Therefore this means that if you have one of the above issues, it is more likely as you get older that this will cause snoring to occur or in fact get worse if you already suffered from it. You can consult a local doctor or sleep specialist if you believe it is becoming a big issue, and there are numerous solutions to try such as a snoring mouthpiece which may help to fix the problem.
Also remember that snoring can be a sign of a more severe condition called sleep apnea, and if you have any concerns that you are feeling a lot more tired and feel that you haven’t had a good night’s sleep despite believing you have slept for the full 8 hours, ask your physician for a sleep test to see if you have had any apneic episodes.
