The investigation was collected from data which was self-documented but some interesting statistics came out of the research. Out of those included in the study, 3% of women had sleep apnea with 8% scoring relatively high scores on despair tests while 6% of guys had sleep apnea, with 5% showing signs of despair.
It was recommended in the study that those suffering with despair should be tested for sleep apnea just in case, to see whether they in fact may need a sleep apnea machine.
The report concluded however that further investigation was needed into the causal link between the two conditions:
"Additional intervention research is needed to determine whether treatment of sleep disordered respiratory among depressed patients will reduce the need for antidepressant treatment and improve outcomes."
It is still a highly significant development and a link which hasn’t actually been proved before. Considering the sizeable sample (of just under ten thousand), the study has come up with some convincing conclusions which mean that those with sleep apnea, may also suffer from despair. The research did, additionally discover that those who experienced from snoring were not affected like sleep apnea sufferers were by despair.
