Brand Recognition and Modern Seo

Up until recently, it was widely assumed that Google recognizes manufacturers when rating sites for certain keywords. This has become less and less of a certainty however, especially after Bryson Meunier used Coca Cola as an example during his speech at the SMX West 2012 conference. Seo, which you use Senuke to assist you with, is changing faster than at any time but it seems as though there are still some avenues for internet marketers to go down.

Meunier, who writes in his blog about it here, talks about “highly relevant non-brand keywords.” What he means by that in way of example is the fact that “cola” and “soda” are highly relevant for a company like Coca Cola, but they are not brand associated. The fact is that although Coca Cola ranks on web page one for both of these lookup terms, it isn’t top of the list, and for “cola” it is even below the fold.

Coca Cola’s website has high domain authority according Open Site Explorer, and obviously high brand recognition, but despite this, it doesn’t get traffic from these lookup terms. The debate about whether looking for drinks online is actually a marketable lookup term anyway, maybe a question to raise, but it shows that even a massive brand in the real world doesn’t necessarily get ranked well in the online world on Google for key words which are very carefully associated with it.

It means for internet marketers that they shouldn’t always be wary about manufacturers when going into a niche market. For sure, there maybe big companies in your niche but they may not rank for all the critical lookup terms which can be monetized.

Of course, always look to avoid highly competitive keywords but it is good to know, at minimum in Seo, where you can be assisted by Senuke, it is still possible to outrank massive manufacturers for relevant keywords if you have the right Seo strategy.
